For week two’s assignment, the company chosen is Target. Target is an upscale American retailing company with grocery items. As of January 2012 the company has 1,763 locations. In preparation for the strategic plan due in week six, research will be performed on Target’s organizational vision, mission, and value statement. To perform the analysis, various sources will be needed both external and internal environmental analysis.
Target’s mission and values work together to foster connections and conversations both inside and outside their doors ("Mission & Values," 2013). The "Mission & Values" (2013) website Target’s mission is to make Target a preferred shopping destination in channels by delivering outstanding value, continual innovation, and exceptional guest experiences by consistently fulfilling the Expect More. Pay Less. ® Brand promise. Research into the extent of this promise will be made using the comparison of Target’s prices. An analysis of the published in Target’s low price promise 2013 report will determine the execution of the low price guaranteed. By using neutral sources within the industry such as the supplies and products, the feasibility, and effectiveness of their efforts will be investigated. The employee culture at Target will also be researched. Target states that one of their major strategic goals is diversity. Through various reporting agencies, such as websites that allow anonymous employer reviews, employee satisfaction levels will be researched.
Necessary to complete a comprehensive strategic plan are two separate components, external, and internal that consist of an environmental analysis. To identify strengths and weaknesses, an internal analysis will examine the company’s business model. Target’s corporate website will be used to obtain any structural organizational information.
