Deciding on which organization was no easy for me, I needed to come up with ideas and play around
with them in order to choose the best one for me. I had to choose between the plenty of them we have
around my location. In my location or community we have Place Of Safety, Siyaphila Old Age and ORT to
name the few. However deciding on how to approach any of them was not easy for me.
Siyaphila Old Age Centre is situated at Pienaary in Mpumalanga. After I did some research, I came
across to this Old Age Centre that is keen on helping old people especial those who no longer or receive
little support at their home. Most of them they get abused by their loved ones, such as their
grandchildren. I was immediately keen to know what they are about and whether they conduct
I eventually chose Siyaphila Old Age Centre, since is the one I see very active and I already read and
heard a lot about the Centre. However, deciding on how to approach the centre was very not easy for
me. I was very anxious and uneasy about approaching them. I think the anxiety aroused from the fact
that I knew, what important work they were doing and how does they value their time and how
committed their stuff is. Engaging to the centre was a new experience for me, as this was a new
environment for me, it made me to feel uncomfortable. The fact that I was going interact with new
people from different cultural and socio-economical background made me not to be sure on how to
behave so that I don’t hint any disrespect to the clients and stuff of the organization. Once I had
reflected on this, I drew from some of my past experiences of meeting new people, such as when I
moved, visiting or start worshiping to another church where I meet other new people who I had never
met, and I realized that I can adjust very well if only I accept the stuff and clients for who they are.
