Schoolwide Intervention to Reduce Chronic Tardiness at the Middle and High School Levels.
Modifications we are making to change or update the study in order to make it our own.
Although the study was successful, suggestions are made and things could be changed that may produce an even more dramatic result. Modifications that should be considered for future studies would include the following :
1. Adding Positive Praise Send home notes each semester for students who are meeting positive criteria to promote non-tardiness whereas before students only received negative punishment for tardiness. Also all students who have not experienced any tardiness will be entered into a raffle each semester for prizes to encourage them to continue their positive behavior.
2. The original study offered too many warnings in its consequences. Originally, students would receive two warnings before earning a lunch detention where they would write a “note-home”. In the new study, we will reduce the number of warnings to only one before students will earn a lunch detention. The original list of consequences should be consolidated into only 3 levels as opposed to 5 to reduce confusion and establish an easier-to-follow guideline.
3. For students who continue to be chronically late, behavioral support should be offered from PBS school team. Students who are failing to respond to the program or who are at-risk, should be targeted for intervention.
4. The new study should be performed at more than one school and the collection of baseline data should include at least three months of data prior to the implementation to any intervention plan so that data will be accurate. In this study, an informal...
