She is waiting, angry and cursing women who would come early if they are invited to a celebration not a meeting.
The play is about her getting what she wants and her ability to persuade others. It is about the whole society and about war.
Her plan: stop the war by:
1- Sex strike to convince men to stop war
2- Occupy the acropolis
Women are strong and their strength is connected to sexuality. All the women take an oath. The older women are in the acropolis (they take a different role). The women first refuse the plan because they would give up anything but not sex because it is something they enjoy. But then they agree because they don’t want to play the role of what women are which is pleasuring men only.
1- She is showing women their power
2- Her goal is ending the war by having a certain strategy discussion
3- She is ambitious and she acts like a leader
4- She is clever and she is not a typical woman
5- She is determined
Her plan is based on intelligence and common sense with no use of violence. It is based on women’s confidence and unity and threatening through the language.
Men have to hurt their women if they want to force them to have sexual relationship with them.
Themes: criticizing the war and showing the power of the women and how they can use a strategy. And the stereotype image about gender.
In this play: it is men who are weak while women are powerful and have a strategy.
The chorus of old men: because all young men are in the war. They carry wood and fire and they can’t believe that women are in the acropolis so they come to force them to get out by set the fire which is a representation of a violent response.
Chorus of old women: they carry jars of water to put the fire out. They put...
