What is Communism?
Communism   refers to a variety of political movements which claim the establishment of a social organization as their ultimate goal. Karl Marx was a German political philosopher and revolutionary he is one of the most important of all socialist thinkers and with political economist Friedrich Engels he created Marxism which is now called Communism.   Engels applied the term communism to a final stage of socialism in which all class differences would disappear and humankind would live in harmony. A proletarian society emerged where equality highly regarded and a bourgeoisie was despised.

What are Communism’s main characteristics?
Some of the main characteristics of communism include public ownership where everything is shared and everything is controlled by the state or government or its equivalent party. Additionally there was little economic freedom where everything in the communist system was categorised and put into place and nothing is different. Communism did not appear to encourage self expression and individuality. The government ruled Russia as a sovereign state.

How did communism start in Russia?
Communism started in Russia after the First World War. One of the main reasons that Russia had a revolution was that the people socially, economically and politically suffered during the First World War. The Russian Revolution of 1917 was a series of political events in Russia which resulted in the removal of Tzar Nicholas II and the elimination of the Provisional Government. This eventually led to the estabilishment of the Soviet Union .


How did Russia’s Communism solve the three basic economic problems?

    • They had Central Authority which meant the government decided what to make, how to make and who got it. This meant no political turmoil.
