Our idea is to provide healthy and economical mid-meal/ late night snack at affordable prices to our student managers, a thought that originally developed to cater to our own issues regarding meals and meal spacing. A closer need gap analysis revealed that this was prevalent across the junior and the senior batches. The target market consists of approximately 650 student managers in their first year and second year of MBA at SIMS. Prima facie, college canteen and Cafe Coffee Day Express (CDX) looked like competitors but our research showed there were gaps that they could not plug.
The team consists of:
Jitender Singh (Mark-fin), Institute of Hotel Management graduate and interned with Emami Ltd.
Tarun Bamrara (Mark-Ops), Mechanical Engineer from VIT, worked at Tata Motors for 5 years and interned with the same in Mumbai.
Operations relating to this venture were designed in a way that would be viable for us with the available resources and that the investment to defray for fixed costs is limited to a minimum. The aforementioned investment and the variable cost/glass will be borne by our team in the ratio of 50:50 and we expect the cash flows to be steady enough to breakeven in two and half month.
A point of concern could be introduction of similar classes of drinks in the college canteen and CDX, though the latter requires a broader level mandate from the Cafe Coffee Day management. College canteen has similar drinks but our differentiator will be the broad menu, fast service & affordability. The fact that our offering is healthy and availability till late night are the underpinnings of this idea.
