Technology and social media have had a positive and negative impact on everyday social interactions throughout modern day society. Technology has had an influence on empowering people to communicate amongst several cultures and geographic locations. The use of technology and social media can build and maintain healthy relationships as well as connect with a wide variation of people across the world. Some feel social media and technological advances are acceptable, while others feel social media and technology have caused people to be overly distracted, stressed, and isolated from the rest of the world. Despite some views that technology and social media have negatively affected good interpersonal communication, these have actually enhanced communications by improving relationships between people of different cultures and geographic locations."

Dictionary.com defines social media as websites and other online means of communication that are used by large groups of people to share information and to develop social and professional contacts. Social media has taken on many forms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace that allows it’s users to create a profile to interact and communicate with a diverse population based off similar interest.
