My aspiration to become a teacher began early in grade school. Not until recently did I associate this desire with my love for school. Never did I experience the dreaded "test anxiety" that was frequently talked about by my classmates. As a student who enjoyed homework, I would count down to the day that I was allowed to bring home my report card. While scholastic success is often easier to obtain when the student finds enjoyment in his or her education, there are other factors that play a part in scholastic achievement. I attribute many of my accomplishments in school to thorough study habits and my attention to detail.   Not every student possesses the tools needed to succeed in school; while some of these tools are gained through experience, others are instinctual.

    Natural behaviors are held by both males and females alike, so that they may prosper both personally and scholastically. Some personality traits can be gender-specific and will sometimes help or hinder a student's academics. Female students are not necessarily better scholars than male students, yet the differences found in male and female scholars are often what define the individual as a student. Through my observations, enthusiasm is a valuable personality trait found more commonly in female students than male students. Many female students are excited to attend school and begin vigorous planning months in advance. Arriving on the first day of school with an ear-to-ear grin, these enthusiastic students are excited to see what the year will bring. The mindset is held that every class is important and cannot be missed, not even a severe cold could force them to miss a class.

    While enthusiasm itself is not always gender specific, it has been my experience that females are generally more enthusiastic about school than males.
