Starbucks
History
Starbucks Corporation is an American global coffee company with an Italian-style coffee house chain originating in Seattle, Washington. Starbucks is one of the largest coffee house companies in the world that has expanded rapidly. It first began in 1971 founded by 3 partners: Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker. They were inspired by entrepreneur Alfred Peet to sell high quality coffee beans and equipment. They tried the name from Moby-Dick movie Pequod; however, it was rejected by some of the co-founders. They instead named it after the chief mate on the Pequod, Starbuck. Starbucks headquarters are located in Seattle, Washington.
Mission Statement
Starbucks coffee house company strives to fulfill its mission: “to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time.” They classify employees as “partners” for whom they provide extensive benefits and training. In order to accomplish its mission, Starbucks has principles which provide guide lines to all of its employees as they go about their daily business. According to the Starbucks pay website, “Starbucks’ pay philosophy is to recognize and rewards partners’ contribution in achieving the company’s strategic goals and business objectives, while aligning with Starbucks Mission Statement and Guiding Principles.”

Starbucks Coffee Co. has more than 16,000 stores and employees 142,000 employees worldwide. You can find a Starbucks Coffee shop in nearly every major Mall/Shopping Center. Although, Starbucks has many competitors it is a well established brand with high expectations and great market strategies.
