The Taj Mahal and Cathedral of Notre Dame
The Taj Mahal is Indian architecture. The Cathedral of Notre Dame is French architecture. The Taj Mahal was built in 1632-1643. The Cathedral of Notre Dame was built in 1163. What is the differences and similarities between the Taj Mahal and the Cathedral of Notre Dame?
Ahmanet Khan’s is the only name that appears anywhere inside the walls of the Taj Mahal complex. In keeping with the Muslim religion, Shah Jahan used no images of people or animals in the Taj Mahal. Shah Jahan spent his last days gazing out along the Yamuna River at the pale dome of the Taj Mahal, his proudest creation. When Shah Jahan died in 1666, his body was moved quietly to the burial chamber beneath the Taj Mahal. Never again would a Mughal emperor aspire to create a Taj Mahal.
Today, the Taj Mahal stand as the greatest achievement of an extraordinary people. It is a monument to the Mughal Empire, as well as to Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is 186 feet square × 220 feet high. In 1638, before the Taj Mahal complex was finished, Shah Jahan made Delhi the capital of the empire. Known as the 8th wonder of the world, the Taj Mahal is located in Agra.
Its great central dome is surrounded by 4 smaller ones. A slender tower, or minaret, rises from each corner of the marble terrace. The tomb’s inner walls are inscribed with verses from the Koran. The Drop arch is another variation of the Gothic arch, though a much wider version. It also called a surbased arch, and is defined as a pointed arch whose span is larger than its radius.
In 1631, Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan was grief-stricken when his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, died during the birth of their 14th child. In her dying breath she asked him to build a mausoleum for her, one more beautiful than any world had seen before.
