Do you know 1 in 3 women become pregnant at least once before they’re 20? In todays society teens are faced with many pressures. The effect of these pressures put on them, is the inability to make right decisions when it comes to certain situations. One of the most common situations teens find themselves in is becoming a parent at a young age, as a result to have sex from peers. Today I will be discussing ways to handle teen pregnancy and the dangers that come along with it.
Some say that teens are not mentally matured enough to have a baby. True theres a lot of adults that aren’t, but teens are still very influential and are still developing ideas and morals of their own. ¾ of teens that have abortions say that they cannot afford to have a child. This includes not having enough money to live, the cost of prenatal care and delivery, childcare and the overall cost of raising a child which is estimated at around $250,000 from birth till age 18. Not wanting to be a single parent is also a main concern, even being in unhappy or problematic relationship is also an issue. Teens who choose abortion are more successful in school and are more likely to graduate and pursue higher education.
Out of all teenage pregnancies 36% are terminated by abortion. Studies have proven that abortion may lead to an increased chance of breast cancer, pelvic inflammatory disease, depression and not to mention death to due to excessive bleeding or other complications. But having the baby has its own risks.
