THE LAST SHOT
Basketball, either playing on blacktop on a humid rainy day or playing in a gym with the feel of the wood floor moving under the soles of my shoes. Playing in a close game can really get under peoples skin, but for me it’s a different story, I love the different styles people play up or down as the clock whines down. Having the crowd enjoy every play you can make. Making them feel the need to stand and chant your name. The feel of being down and the beams from the lights on the ceiling getting heavier as the game continues or the feel of being up down and feel the dense pressure from your teammates as they cheer for you to stop the opponent from scoring. The game I will never forget.
February 2, 2012 was a day I would never forget. Walking in to the gym I see the boys Loma Linda Junior Varsity team playing against the Arrowhead Christian Academy JV boys team. Seeing the difference in the score came to the conclusion that the game I was going to play would be easy. Then when I heard the LLA JV girls had won their game by double digits, it made me relax. When the LLA varsity girls started and the score was about already getting out of hand in the second quarter, it got clear that my game would be the same.
As my game was about to start we hear that our head coach will not be here for our game and our assistant coach will coach us. Then to make matters worse our starting point guard was late and couldn’t start, and the point guard that was going to start wasn’t as good. So even before the game started I had already regret thinking this game would be easy. When the game started it was then I knew this was going to be a game to the end. By the end of the first quarter, it was within the 3 points of us.
When the second quarter started our starting point guard was able to play. Thinking that this would give us an edge I relaxed a little. But, something I forgot was that their main scorers were already hitting...
