History of religion
Once there was a Prince who was sitting in the garden of his palace, solitary and sad. The time was midnight. The world was sleeping in dark silence. He just came out from the dancing hall bored of cabaret because he was unsatisfied with all the worldly pleasures and luxuries. There was a growing meaninglessness in life. That night his mind was whispering about questions regarding life. One doesn’t know where one came from and where one goes. Laughing and crying endlessly. Where we go from here? Why these meaningless play? Effort trying to understand but useless attempts. Awake and don’t sleep. But we desire the rest. The Prince awakens. He silently said goodbye to his wife and child. He started a journey that became historical. The journey made him the enlightened Buddha.
We can see throughout history some personalities like Buddha who devoted their life to spirituality. Before the time of consciousness, God persuaded humanity ‘Take your cross and follow me’. Hearing this calling, thousands of people from east and west sacrificed everything and went beyond out of the realms of limited consciousness. For ordinary people, the world and its pleasures are very important. But some rare personalities long and search for the eternal reality.
From the beginning of the history, humankind was searching for the intelligence which is hidden behind the universal phenomenon. Passing through the Stone Age people settled down and civilised in the valleys of the rivers. The important world civilisations in the history are Mesopotamian (Euphrates and Tigris civilisations), Nile valley civilisation, Indus valley civilisation etc. In the Old Testament, Genesis 2:10 also describes about four rivers namely Pishon, Gihon, Tigris and Euphrates. In this way, we can assume the links between the rivers and Egyptian civilisation and Judaism.
