ASK: Why is murder wrong?
1. Human life is sacred.
a. Human beings are made in the image of God
READ: Genesis 1:27 - So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
b. Murder is not only a crime, it is a sin
i. There were consequences in Old Testament Israel
READ: Exodus 21:12 - Whoever strikes a man so that he dies shall be put to death. Eye for an eye.
ii. There are consequences in today’s society
An eye for an eye: the only thing equal to the value of an human life is another human life. Life imprisonment or the death penalty.
iii. There will be eternal consequences
READ: Revelation 21:8 - But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.
You will not be allowed into the promised land.
c. Murder starts in the heart
READ: Matthew 5:21–22 - You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.
If you murder you go to hell, if you hate you are considered a murderer, so if you hate you go to hell. That is why Jesus died for us.
