The two companies I decided to evaluate because I believe their great services come from good a good support system are:
Target has over 366,000 diverse team members around the world, so the company likes to invest in career development and well-being of their employees. The company agrees that by doing so, it makes the company better. The company claims to strive to provide its employees with a positive atmosphere. They want the employees to feel challenged, but most importantly, Target wants its employees to love working for them (Target, 2015).
As far as career development, the company offers a combination of opportunities to support employees in their career development by identifying their goals. In addition, Target has a systems in place to assist its employees to explore the over 120 different career paths available. The company utilizes partnership and internal expertise to assist in the training of new employees. It also utilizes external benchmarking to help prepare the new team members. Target’s leadership foundation and expectations competency models offers a clear expectation on skills and abilities necessary to successfully finish the training program. Targets also offer an Employee Satisfaction Survey to allow team members express how they feel about the company and allows the company to identify areas of needed improvement (Target, 2015).
A performance review, once a year is offered to all team members; however, team members have the opportunity to meet with their team leaders at least four times a year to discuss career and business goals, and performance. Target requires that employees get involved in the community by volunteering hours to assist in projects such as, responding to disasters, reading with students, or even renovating school’s libraries. In summary, they offer several options to the employee to help in matching their interests’ with an activity (Target, 2015).
