Based on the health risk assessment test I have an above average risk of development of lung cancer. A description of lung cancer is cancer that’s forms in tissues of the lung, usually in the cells lining air passages. The two main types of lung cancer are small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. These two of cancer types are usually diagnosed based on how the cells look under a microscope. Lung cancer is a malignant cancer that originates when normal lung cells become abnormal, usually after a series of mutations and begin to divide out of control. The majority of all lung cancer cases are caused by smoking. The carcinogens in cigarette smoke cause damage to lung tissue. If a person smokes for a prolonged period of time, the damage can cause the cells in the lung tissue to act abnormally, which can develop into cancer over time. Small cell lung cancer is most often seen in the more heavy smokers. Non-small cell is most often seen in smokers and include several types of lung cancers.
The risk factors for lung cancer can include things like smoking, being a female, being exposed to second hand smoke, a family history of cancer (especially lung cancer), and excessive use of alcohol and being exposed to asbestos, radon gas or other harmful and harsh chemicals in your environment. Different risk factors change risk by different amounts. Some people may have one or more risk factors and do not get cancer. If a person has several risk factors and develops lung cancer, they will not know how much each of the risk factors contributed to the cancer.
Screening test or early detection is designed to find cancer when it’s most likely to be treated. The best screening test discover tumors before they become malignant (when they are still pre cancer). A screening test looks for signs of cancer in people who have no symptoms. A positive screening test is typically followed by more testing to determine if the person actually has cancer and how advanced it might...
