The definition of family is a group of parents and children living together in a household, although what we mean by a family although fits under the definition of it, is has been very different, through the past fifty years.
Before a family, is a mum who does all the cooking and cleaning, and the dad who provides for the family by working, and they would have children, all in the same house. In the weekends they would spend time together, and do activities as a family. In the fifties most people were not as open minded as the people of today, so there were almost rules of what a good family would be, and so it was always the same; a mum, a dad and their children.
However like everything else, families have also evolved, so now a child could have two dads, or two mums. They can have two houses, which they both proudly call their homes. They can have siblings not of blood, but adopted, or step siblings. A child could live with their grandparents, or their aunt and uncle. The mother doesn’t always stay at home and do the cooking, and they don’t always have a husband, but can be a single. Just like a father in modern times, doesn’t have to go out and do work, but can be at home and look after their children.
The meaning of a family has changed so much, that it doesn’t need a parent, or that it doesn’t need a child. They don’t always have a household. Anyone can be part of a family, not just a child and their two married parents. Today some people are more accepting of the meaning of a family, it is simply people who share a relationship.
