The Person I've Always wanted to be
When someone asked me "why did I choose to go to college and continue my education", of course my general answer was: because I want to study Fashion Merchandising. However, as my move-in date got closer, I began to wonder, Is this what I really want? Why didn't I just stay at home and start a clothing line this year? Did I really need to do this? It was already set in stone that I would have my own clothing line someday, everyone in my family already knew that, but there was something more to my story, I just didn't know the missing piece.
Now I'd say it's been about a week, and for the most part, I finally found the answers to my questions. I decided and was certain, that I came to Texas State University, not only to Major in Fashion Merchandising and to learn anything and everything dealing with fashion (including the business history, and process), but to further my education in culture, my surroundings and books. I want to take part in the college experience, and meet and learn about students from different culture; make connections with students I would have never approached in high school. I want to have the opportunity to network with students who could potentially become an investor one day. I need a foundation to build on so I can have this fabulous clothing line one day; I need college.
Not only do I need college to further my education in every aspect, but I also need it to gain that sense of accomplishment and wiggle room when I finally receive my diploma. Even though it's just piece of paper, it makes a world of a difference in what direction I can take my life and the opportunities that I will have available to me when I face corporate America. They say with knowledge comes power. Well I want that power to have control and freedom with my life, I don't want to be stuck living pay check to pay check because I can only get a certain job with a high school diploma; I want to be financially stable.
