Why High School Graduates Should Take a Year Off Before Going to College
I believe that after graduating high school it is helpful in many ways to take a year off before you decide to enter college. Nothing is better for a person than to be able to live a year with a fresh and open mind for what they want to do for the rest of their life. This is a year to be able to consider all the options, find stability in their life and with their financials, and they would be way more motivated to go back to school or even have better luck getting into a school.
A year to be able to consider all the options in life could be very useful for indecisive people. If you are not positive on exactly what you want to do in life yet a year is more than enough to research jobs. You could even pick your job you want and study up on it a little before you enter college to begin studying for it. If you find yourself not having the time to consider all your options you could find yourself stuck in a job that really is not meant for you.
In this year off you can use it to find stability in your own life. You could find an apartment of your own. You could even rent a house with a few of your friends instead of having to live with your parents until you graduate from college. The year off would allow the student to develop some aspects of independence, reflect on the skills he/she requires and practice on staying alone even in the comfort of family members and friends. This time could be utilized to find an average paying job to start saving for college books, fees, and your tuition. Many college graduates graduate with a large amount of debt, but those who do not use a gap year to earn money so they are not in such debt.
