Why not legalize marijuana? We already live in a state with so much corruption, would it really make a difference to legalize a substance that is known to heal? We live in a state where alcohol and cigarettes are legal and known to kill over 6 million a year. Please tell me when the “drug” marijuana has ever killed anyone. NEVER! There are no facts to back that up. Not to mention if marijuana was legal are state would come out of debt and it could boost up our economy tremendously. Others make the issues controversial and say if marijuana was legal it will get in the hands of younger teens, but either way illegal or not that can happen. That’s when morals come in. Also most say that marijuana is a gateway drug and can lead to more of a harmful substance. People who choose to smoke medical cannabis have their reasons. Most of the time they are not doing it to be coo or because it’s the “in” thing, But because they need it for medical reasons. The government approaches this issue very poorly because the benefits of legalization of marijuana outweigh the negative by far.  
There is no question that this move would raise a lot of money for the cash-strapped state. California if one of the 10 states allowing the sale of medical marijuana, marijuana is already California’s biggest cash crop, responsible for $14 billion a year in sales. The states tax collectors estimate the bill would bring in about $1.3 billion a year in revenue via a $50-per ounce levy on retail sales of marijuana and sale taxes. One economist estimated the state would also save about 1 billion per year by not arresting and imprisoning those caught with small amounts of marijuana, 13.7 billion can be saved on prohibition enforcement costs. Its estimated that Washington’s legalization of marijuana could bring the state an additional $500 million in tax revenue.
