She was just sitting there, like she was waiting for something, but what would you have to sit in the subway waiting for every day. She was sitting there from early in the morning to late in the evening, just looking at the trains. What no one knew was that she was waiting for her son to arrive. He left her 10 years ago joining the military and going to the war. Living in a country filled with racism, many people had been calling her nigger. They didn’t know that she was waiting everyday filled with fear for her son to come home. When her son left they agreed to meet at the subway station some day after 10 years. She had been sitting there every day for around a month waiting for him first time someone took contact with her. It was an old lady. The old lady told her that she also had a son in the war, and that her husband has died in the war. England was losing the war, everyone knew that. Almost none of the soldiers who went to Iraq came back alive. That was the reason she was sitting there waiting, she had a hope that she would see her son walk out of the train, even though she knew that the chance of that happening was very small. Every morning on the way to the subway she picked up a newspaper from the floor, and almost every day it said that a British military base had been attacked somewhere in the Middle East. She didn’t know the name of her sons base, so she could only hope that it hadn’t been bombed.
One morning in the newspaper she read about a British soldier who had assassinated the leader of Iraq all by himself. When she saw the picture in the article she recognized her son. She was very happy because she knew that he was alive, and she couldn’t wait until he arrived in the train.
She kept waiting for another month without hearing anything from her son, but she was still certain that he would be home soon. She read in the newspapers that he was going to be knighted when he came home.
One day she saw soldier stepping...
