Different Health Problems Associated with Stress
Work-related stress has been proven to cause a decrease in return of profit due to lack of
Organization in the workplace. Stress can also lead to an increase risk of health problems. Among the broad group of disadvantages that result from stress, health problems are the most common. Health problems commonly known to bet of stress are diseases, high-blood pressure, anxiety, and hormonal changes. Some have stated hormonal changes caused by stress can increase appetite causing obesity and depression. Stress can increase ones vulnerabilities to obesity, depression, and serious infections. Although stress can cause various health problems, there are also many ways to preventing stress.
Obesity is one of the most common forms of stress. When one is stressing, the body secretes a hormone that increases appetite (Dallman, 2010). Obesity is the leading cause of many health problems today. Without it being contained, it can lead to other serious health problems such as congestive heart problems, cardiac arrest, and high blood pressure. All of these health problems are affecting many Americans in our society today. When the body is stressed whether it’s physical or emotional, one tends to change their eating habits. Most Americans rely on comfort foods that are high in calories. When stressed the body tends to crave these foods that are full of fat. “With choice, the foods eaten during times of stress typically favor those with increased fat and/or sugar content” (Dallman, 2010).
Depression is also an outcome of stress that is affecting many Americans today. Depression can cause suicidal thoughts and cause one’s meaning of life to be unfulfilling. If depression is not treated, the results could be overwhelming. Being depressed could cause a lack of energy causing one to be absent from work.
