1. Setting .- The setting of this story in the beginning is in the dinning room(immediate place), where everybody is sitting and reading the paper “He was sitting on the edge of his chair at the table” in Atlanta, Georgia(geographic place). And it was during summer, because the children are at home and they are about to go on vacation to Florida. Then, the final scene takes place after the accident outside of Toombsboro, on a dirt road, during a hot afternoon(immediate time) with a clear sky, no clouds or any sun. Since there’s no mention of a war going on, and the grandmother says that “the way Europe acted would think we were made of money”, I think the historic time is late 40’s or early 50’s .
2. Characterization .- The protagonist is the Grandmother, a woman who lives with
Bailey(his only son) and his family. She tries to convince the family to not go to Florida
because of the fugitive (The Misfit). The Misfit (antagonist) is definitely the bad guy. He’s a
murderer who seems to do bad things for the sake of doing bad things without remorse. He's
the one who confronts, threatens, and kills the family of the protagonist, and ultimately the
protagonist herself. John Wesley and June Star , loud and obnoxious young kids are the
catalysts, because they convince their father to go to the old plantation their grandmother
remembered visiting, when she was young. Bailey’s wife and the mother of John Wesley,
June Star, and a baby was most of the time just taking care of the baby. Her only notable
moments come towards the end of the story, when Bailey is taken into the woods. Bobby
Lee and Hiram are the criminals who escaped with The Misfit and helped killing the family.
3. Plot .- The conflict is when the car accident happens but nobody is killed. Yet, the pleasant family vacation has taken a sudden turn for the worse. The family is now trapped and waiting for someone to help them. Who could it be? For the time...
